Using the PowerPoint Plug-In
The CONTENTdm PowerPoint Plug-in enables quick and easy import of My Favorites items (images as well as metadata) into Microsoft PowerPoint. The PowerPoint presentation can then be edited and modified using the tools available in PowerPoint.
System requirements: Windows XP or Windows Vista. Microsoft PowerPoint 2002, 2003, or 2007. PowerPoint 97 is not supported. The following Cookies enabled web browsers are supported: Internet Explorer 6.0 or later and Firefox 2.0 and later.
Installing PowerPoint Plug-in:
- Download the plug-in by clicking the link above.
- Open the downloaded file to install the PowerPoint Plug-in.
- Follow the installation directions on the screen.
Using the PowerPoint Plug-in:
- Open PowerPoint.
- Open a new or existing presentation.
- Click on the CONTENTdm button, which is usually located in the upper left of the PowerPoint toolbar. An import wizard dialog box will appear.
- Enter the URL of the USM Digital Collections web site:
http://cdm.lib.usm.edu. Click Next to continue.
- Find items to download from CONTENTdm by searching collections or by selecting items saved to My Favorites. To import items from My Favorites, save items to My Favorites outside of the plug-in. From the Select Import Method screen, select to either search CONTENTdm collections on the specified Web site or to import CONTENTdm items already saved to My Favorites. Click Next to continue.
- To search collections to locate items, specify the search parameters and the collection to search in the Search for Items screen. Click Search to display the search results.
- To import items saved in My Favorites, select Import My Favorites on the Select Import Method screen. All of the images in My Favorites are downloaded to the plug-in.
- Choose a slide layout. On the Select Layout screen, choose the number of images to include on each slide. (Images are automatically sized smaller when more than one image is included on each slide.)
- Specify what information about the images to include by clicking on the Select Metadata Fields button on the Select Layout Screen.
- On the Select Layout screen, click Download to download the selected items and associated metadata to PowerPoint. The Item Download Complete screen confirms the number of items downloaded.
To add an item to My Favorites in CONTENTdm: Search or browse a CONTENTdm collection. When you open an item to view it, links to add items to My Favorites appear in the upper- and lower-left corners of the display pages.
